Sneakers The Cat (1998 – 2014)

Our Cat Sneakers

Tragedy struck today when our beloved cat, Sneakers, passed away quietly (and fearlessly) this afternoon. My wife and I are both heartbroken, for we both know life will never be quite the same again in our home. But if nothing else, we can at least rejoice that Sneakers was very happy during most of her 16 years upon this Earth. I can’t say when we will stop grieving – right now, it feels like never – but together, we’ll be doing our best to get through this and all the other life-changing challenges we are currently facing. I only hope that when it’s my turn to cross the Veil, I’ll face it with as much bravery as our little cat did.

In loving memory, here is an obituary I wrote for Sneakers this afternoon in a text to all our friends.

At 2:29 pm EST on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, our cat Sneakers passed beyond the Veil with Anubis, who even now is guiding her to safety in the next world. We send our prayers with her, and we pray she will have fun frolicking with Togare the lion, Saucepan, Ziggy and other cats of legend up there in the great lion preserve of Ishtar. We love you, Sneakers, and you’ll always be welcome in our home with us. (All we ask is that you don’t spook your father too badly in the dead of night, because you know he spooks real easy.)

We love you, Sneaky, and Godspeed.

Sending you and your wife a lot of love. I’ve yet to lose one of my furkids, having only first been able to adopt four years ago, but the mere thought of it (may it be many years from now) can bring me to tears. Please take care as best you can.

We will, and thank you very much for your support. It’s still very difficult to deal with – especially late at night for some reason – but we’re making progress. It’s better now that we have the cat’s ashes; we’ll be setting up a new ancestor shrine and adding her to it this weekend.

Thank you again for your support, I truly appreciate it. May your fur children all have very long and happy lives! 🙂
