In The Desert Of Seth

A Gift For My Mother-In-Law

Last weekend, I made this for my mother-in-law. I had it printed out as a color photograph and framed it for her. It’s become distressingly clear that her time on Earth is almost up, and I really wanted to give her something that represented my love and respect for her. A colorized version of the Alexamenos Graffito was the best thing I could think of.

My colorized version of the Alexamenos Graffito; a present for my mother-in-law

For those who don’t already know, this is taken from ancient Roman graffiti that was created back in the 3rd century CE (at least). It is the oldest image of Jesus Christ on record, and it was created by a Roman soldier who was making fun of one of his buddies for converting to Christianity. You’ll notice that Jesus is drawn with a donkey’s head; back in those times, drawing someone with donkey-like characteristics was like drawing someone with devil horns today. The reason donkeys were considered a symbol of evil is because they were sacred to Seth-Typhon, who was also being demonized by the classical polytheist world at the same time that early Christianity was. So in effect, the Alexamenos Graffito is an image of great relevance not only to Christians, but to Typhonians as well. For me personally, it represents the mystery of how Seth – a God who is most commonly misunderstood as a “devil” in today’s world – can just as easily be friends with Jesus as He can with Lucifer.

This is relevant in terms of my mother-in-law because she is a deeply religious Christian, and yet she has had one-on-one experiences with Seth that have proven to her that He is just as real as Jesus is. Yet she is equally convinced that Seth isn’t the same as Satan, that He isn’t evil and that He and Jesus are really on the same side. I realize that must sound very confusing to people who don’t already know about this stuff to begin with, but if you want to learn more, please check out my article on Aberamentho: Seth-Typhon, Yahweh and Jesus Christ.

Anyway, my mother-in-law really loved this gift and has said that she feels much better knowing that she has both Jesus and Seth on her side. To be perfectly honest, my wife and I both feel much better knowing this as well.

I’m glad this made your mother-in-law happy. My thoughts are with you all on what must be an extremely difficult time.
